Cyclopes were never really known for having the most shiny pristine armor or clothing.I wanted to go with a home-made looking armor
For her costuming I struggled with the colors for this because I loved her hair color so much I didn't want to take away from that.So I went with a Sky blue and cream theme.
I started by making the armor out of polymer. I keep an extra body around..( oh that was funny to type)
to size clothes and bake the armor on.
With that tiny torso and wide hips ,Monster Highs are a little tricky to clothe.
I wrapped white polymer around ( not all the way) and cut tiny pieces of tan polymer to create stitching.
To seal on the stitching I used Liquid Sculpty .. and bake.I do a few bakes at a lower temp to not lose the original color..Sculpty will darken if baked too long or hot.. Hate THAT!

One day I'll actually write down the pattern for some of the clothes I make ,I either eyeball it or wrap fabric around the doll to size
costume almost finished with a tiny hole in the naval for her belly button ring. I thought about being a Cyclopes and thought 'If I came from a tribe or race of being with only one eye, They would be Obsessed with eyes!... Kinda how I obsess about cheesecake and fitting rooms with good lighting.......meh.". for the shield I found a great medallion at the craft store,attached a handle and painted the center stone and eye.
Cyclopes were builders and Blacksmiths, she needed a hammer!

I couldn't believe how STRONG this hammer was when I was done I was tempted to run around and hit bugs with it!

I'd like to blog about dolls or art today ,or taking something and making it into something else. Today I had a very hard time concentrating after hearing the news that Talia died this morning.
I am very saddened by this. Talia fought cancer a good portion of her life . SHe knew what was happening to her and was not confused. SHe wanted to be a makeup guru and she became that, she wanted to be a voice for children with cancer and became that. She met celebrities and gained many fans. THis kid did more in her little life span of 13 yrs then many of us will do in our Long life time. But that is not the real thing that saddens me .What really saddens me is when I think if she was MY niece or daughter how incredibly painful to watch her go through it. To watch her suffer and then eventually lose her. I don't know how someone recovers. I DO know I would BE So proud of that child.... DO what you LOVE.Do it in a Timely Fashion.DO not worry about negative people. Talia was and example for us and a great teacher, all 70 lbs of her.
I saw her when she was on the Ellen Degeneres show and Ellen asked how do you keep going with all of this and Talia replied "a little fishy once told me, Just keep swimming"

Here's the thing, I started making videos so that my nieces could see them.We don't live very close and I wanted them to see what I do. They are all under 12 and I thought maybe this could bridge some miles between us.
I also realized that when I started customizing and repainting dolls 8 or so years ago there were a couple of really giving folks that shared their knowledge unselfishly and if you do this kind of stuff you KNOW it. Not everything you learned first hand.
Now through the years I've learned a lot of stuff through trial and error and just down right FAILING.
So I have a lot of knowledge that maybe useless in the real world but for crafty, arty and doll customizing it's Da Bomb.
I figured this is how I can give back a little , maybe it's worth something to someone.. maybe..
I knew going in I was going to get criticized.
You-Tubing is not for everyone. People and children say mean things for what seems to be no reason...... and frankly that just SUX.
I was afraid at first my nieces would see things said about their aunt that would upset them.
It's the equivalent to..
Being a bus driver in a new town and people get on the bus saying things like..
"Ugh your hat is UGLY!"..."I think bus drivers are SATAN worshipers!"..." why on EARTH would you want to drive a BUS?!"........ but then someone will get on the bus and say "This was VERY Helpful!"... and "Thank You for the ride,it would have been a really long walk home :)"
Still wondering if my 12 yr old niece had seen the comments or the videos .
She mentioned that She herself would like to make videos... trying to Sway her Away from it
I said to her "It's hard to make videos sometimes,people can say mean things"
and she said " there are a lot more nice comments about you then bad"
Yep,I got schooled by a 12yr old.
